SPIDERADIO Advance AI-RAN:Bringing Intelligence into the Radio Access Network
2026-09-15 10:04
For SPIDERADIO, AI-RAN means integrating AI capabilities into base station and RAN infrastructure to enable more intelligent radio sensing, resource allocation, and network optimization.
As a strategic R&D direction, our work focuses on three areas:
𝐁𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞
Our R&D focuses on integrating AI computing capabilities into RAN nodes to support local inference and optimize beamforming, power control, and radio resource allocation without relying on external AI platforms.

AI-RAN is being designed to allocate radio resources according to different service and traffic requirements. Current R&D targets include improving spectral efficiency by more than 30% and reducing base station power consumption by up to 20%.
𝐄𝐝𝐠𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞
Future base stations could do more than provide connectivity. They could also serve as 𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞 𝐀𝐈 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐧𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐬, 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐈 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐯𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 to applications across vertical industries, including visual inspection in smart factories and real-time sensing in smart cities.
This could help transform the communications network from a connectivity layer into a 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐮𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦.
AI-RAN is not an isolated add-on. It makes intelligence part of how the RAN is designed, operated, and optimized.
